Heartland Health Services is governed by a seventeen member volunteer Board of Directors who have the responsibility to provide leadership and guidance to ensure the organization is doing what it is intended to do which is to provide primary health care to residents residing in areas that have been designated as medically underserved.
The Board serves Heartland Health Services as a voice of the communities. Fifty one percent (51%) of the Board’s members are individuals who are served at the sites and who, as a group, represent the patients who are being served in terms of demographic factors; i.e., race, ethnicity, sex, income. The Board is placed in a position of trust by the community and has a fiduciary and clinical responsibility to the organization.
HHS is deemed for protection from medical malpractice claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).
